DESCRIPTION

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Back Office Supervisor or designee, this position provides professional skilled age-specific care for patients in collaboration with the physician and other disciplines. This position demonstrates the professional skills and behaviors to promote comprehensive, cost effective, and meaningful healthcare for consumers in a diverse healthcare environment. Performs patient care and technical related services for the neonate thru geriatric patient population in the back office.

Follow standard laboratory methods, practices, policies, regulations and ensure Wesley Health Centers
(WHC) quality and compliance procedures.
Collect samples of blood and urine, properly label the specimens and conduct simple tests on the samples.

Operates, adjust and maintains scientific instruments, including but not limited to, autoclave, glucometer and other point of care testing equipment.

Assumes responsibility for accuracy in the preparation and standardization of tests.

Follows required aseptic techniques in the lab area

Logs samples and related pertinent information and has responsibility for containers and specimens.

Keeps inventories of supplies and stock on hand for laboratory use.

Maintains adjustment or calibration of laboratory instruments, apparatus, or testing devices on a daily, weekly or monthly basis..

Complete QC logs daily for all lab refrigerator/freezer temperatures.

Complete QC logs daily for all dispensed medication

Complete medication inventory monthly

Order all medical supplies as needed.

Order all VFA program vaccines and inventory vaccines monthly

Update ASIIS program daily for all vaccines administered

Understands Title X family planning services and sliding fee discount schedule requirements.

Notify patients of all abnormal STD results, dispense or call in treatment medication and make follow- up appointment.

STD reporting to CDC

Dispenses birth control as ordered

Keeps medication inventory, including controlled medication

Patient education on diabetes, insulin and glucometer

Serves as laboratory point of contact as needed.

Education/Experience:
Requires Laboratory Technician certification from accredited program
One (1) year Laboratory experience preferred but not required.
CPR with basic life support card in good standing.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
Ability to work with a diverse population.

Language Ability:
Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Write simple correspondence.
Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees.

Mathematical Ability:
Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Compute rate, ratio and percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
MS Office, eClinicalWorks
Certificates and Licenses:
CPR with basic life support card in good standing. Fingerprint clearance check.
